[Review] The Laughing Corpse – Anita Blake#2 Laurell K. Hamilton

Do not underestimate the short ones because they can wipe out any supernatural creature…

Sinopsys- Harold Gaynor offers Anita Blake a million dollars to raise a 300-year-old zombie. Knowing it means a human sacrifice will be necessary, Anita turns him down. But when dead bodies start turning up, she realizes that someone else has raised Harold’s zombie–and that the zombie is a killer. Anita pits her power against the zombie and the voodoo priestess who controls it.

In The Laughing Corpse Anita will learn that there are some secrets better left buried-and some people better off dead.

“I felt like shit, but it was happy shit.”

In this book, she is being offered a job by a wealthy millionaire to raise a 300 year old zombie but raising this type of zombie need a human sacrifice which Anita doesn’t do however big the reward may be.

“Stupidity isn’t punishable by death. If it was, there would be a hell of a population drop.”

The Laughing Corpse develops Anita’s character further , we learn more about her affinity with the dead, that her talent is inherited and about her first experience of raising the dead accidentally as a child.Jean-Claude is now the vampire master of St Louis and he has given Anita two of the four marks that would make her his human servant.  She doesn’t want to be anybody’s servant and even though there are some perks to being a vampire’s human servant  she just isn’t interested.

“Who hit you?”

“Why, so you can go beat him up?”
“One of the fringe benefits of being my human servant is my protection.”
“I don’t need your protection, Jean-Claude.”
“He hurt you.”
“And I shoved a gun into his groin and made him tell me everything he knew,” I said.”

Jean-Claude’s character was more filled out in this second novel. For all of his vampiric danger, the fact that Anita amuses Jean-Claude and makes him laugh

The Anita Blake series are a great read to every vampire, zombie, supernatural, creepy gruesome reader out there. Hamilton writes in a very detailed many, giving up vivid pictures that help our imagination to think of the actual story and how it goes.

“I wasn’t crying, my eyes were running. My eyes were running because there were pieces of zombies all over my toys. Jesus.”

And let us not forget the acid mood of our heroine ….

“I wanted to say something brilliant. My God, Holmes, how did you know the zombie was hiding in the flower pot? But I couldn’t lie.”

For these and others that the soundtrack is explosive  atidude with Jennifer Rostock – Tier In Dir, just because …

Steck deine Hand in meine Tasche

Und such das Tier in mir,
Such das Tier in mir
Bis du erwachst in kalter Asche
Es ist das Tier in dir,
Es ist das Tier in dir
